The Quality of Drinking Water ...

Stormwater management has increasingly become a significant concern for civic agencies responsible for planning systems that safely collect and dispose of urban runoff.
To address this challenge, the Punjab Municipal Development Fund Company (PMDFC) has initiated a World Bank–funded hybrid program aimed at enhancing the performance of participating Municipal Committees and Corporations (MCs) across 11 cities in Punjab. Improvement of municipal infrastructure—particularly stormwater drainage systems—forms a key component of this program.
The Initial Environmental Examination (IEE) for each city has been prepared in line with the World Bank’s Core Principles for the Program-for-Results (PforR) financing modality, as well as the environmental and social regulations of the Government of Punjab (GoPb). Additionally, an Environmental and Social Management Framework (ESMF) has been developed for the Punjab Cities Program (PCP). The ESMF serves as a guiding document to support MCs in understanding and complying with environmental and social management requirements, ensuring alignment with World Bank policies and relevant local laws and regulatory frameworks.
